What is the FIFA Club World Cup?
The FIFA Club World Cup is an international soccer tournament that seeks to crown the best soccer, or football club in the world. Now taking place every four years, the Club World Cup brings together club teams from around the world and pits them together through a month-long tournament, similar to the more well-known FIFA World Cup.
Why bet on the Club World Cup?
The FIFA Club World Cup has emerged as one of the biggest betting events of a summer otherwise void of major men’s soccer tournaments. Here are the top reasons to engage in Club World Cup betting:
Fierce competition
While the Club World Cup has existed for a long time, the new format has created a buzz that the tournament hasn’t seen before. Entering a new four-year cycle, whoever takes home the cup will have bragging rights over the world for four full years. Plus, there are a billion reasons for the top clubs to give the tournament everything. In total, there’s a billion dollars in both participation and performance related payouts on the line.
Unique matchups
The Club World Cup creates matchups between top clubs from across the world that quite simply wouldn’t exist without the tournament. Where else can you see top clubs in Argentina or Brazil facing off in meaningful games against European giants like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich? Or a team from MLS going toe-to-toe with Manchester City with silverware and cash on the line? These are rare, unique matchups and betting opportunities.
Club World Cup brings world class talent
The world’s best club teams bring the world’s best players. From Messi at Inter Miami to Mbappe at Real Madrid – the Club World Cup will be a who’s who of soccer royalty.
Filling the void: timing
It’s the perfect time for a major soccer tournament with no World Cup, Euros, or Copa América taking place. Betting on the FIFA Club World Cup will take center stage for soccer fans, bridging the gap to August when most teams begin their seasons.

FIFA Club World Cup format explained
As we alluded to earlier, the FIFA Club World Cup has changed a lot over the years and the 2025 version will be unlike any of the past tournaments. The current format will seem familiar to soccer bettors and fans alike, as it closely resembles the actual FIFA World Cup:
32 total teams
For 2025 and beyond there will be 32 teams participating in each Club World Cup, with all regions represented. For now, this breaks down as:
1 team from the host country
4 teams from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
4 teams from the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
4 teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean (CONCACAF)
6 teams from the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL)
1 team from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC)
12 teams from Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)
Group stage
Club World Cup play begins in the group stage with each of the 32 teams being drawn into one of the eight available groups (Group A – H). During the group stage, participating teams will play one match against each of the three teams in their group. Three points will be awarded for a win, one point will be awarded for a draw, and no points will be awarded for a loss for each game. Once each team has played their three group stage games, the two teams that accumulate the most points will advance to the knockout stage.
Knockout stage
The top two teams in each Club World Cup group will advance to the knockout stage. This is a single-elimination 16-team tournament – survive and advance, as they say. In total, there will be four rounds of knockout stage play: the Round of 16, the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals, and the Club World Cup Final, which will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13th.
Club World Cup Qualification: How to earn entry
So who gets to play in the FIFA Club World Cup? It all depends on performance over the four years preceding the tournament. For example, all play from 2021 – 2024 was considered for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Continental Champions
First and foremost, each club that won a Continental Championship during the four years leading up to the tournament will be included in the field. “Continental Championships” include:
AFC Champions League Elite (Asia)
CAF Champions League (Africa)
CONCACAF Champions Cup (North America, Central America, Caribbean)
Copa Libertadores (aka CONMEBOL Libertadores – South America)
UEFA Champions League (Europe)
If a team wins more than one Continental Cup during the four years in question, an extra space is added to that region’s ranking allocations.
Club rankings
We’re not going to breakdown the exact mathematical formula here, but each region is awarded slots in the Club World Cup based on overall team performance over the previous four years. Every club is awarded points based on winning and drawing league games, as well as tournament progression. The teams with the highest four-year point tally in the years leading up to the Club World Cup are invited to participate.
Host the tournament
The host country of the tournament also receives one entry in to the Club World Cup.
