The New York Yankees (71-55) are going for a sweep Thursday night against the Baltimore Orioles (61-66) at Camden Yards. The Yankees won Tuesday’s series opener in a low-scoring 3-1 contest before some late heroics Wednesday night helped secure a 5-3 victory over their AL East rivals.

Trent Grisham was the catalyst for the Yankees’ offense in the opener, leading his team to victory with a solo home run in the third inning and a go-ahead two-RBI single in the seventh. Wednesday night’s game featured a much more controversial result.

After already hitting his 29th home run of the season earlier in the contest and with the game tied at three runs apiece through six innings, Orioles slugger Pete Alonso thought he had hit a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh, which would’ve been his second long ball of the game. Instead, the ball was ruled foul near the left-field foul pole, and the call was later upheld after review because there was not enough evidence to overturn it despite many believing it was fair. The Yankees went on to score two runs in the top of the eighth inning and won the game 5-3 to set up Thursday night’s sweep opportunity.

Thursday night’s pitching matchup features veteran right-hander and 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole making his 16th start of the season for the Yankees. Cole missed the beginning of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery but has since posted a 3.22 ERA and recorded 92 strikeouts in 86.2 innings. The Orioles are expected to counter with right-hander Kyle Bradish, who is 7-11 with a 3.65 ERA this season.

Orioles vs. Yankees Best Bet: Yankees Moneyline (-110)

The Yankees have a 7-2 record in the season series against the Orioles and have already won the first two games of this series. It’s been a tightly contested series through the first two games, but Gerrit Cole has been pitching phenomenally over his last eight starts, making it hard to go against the Yankees Thursday night.

The Orioles have also, interestingly, lost six straight games when listed as home underdogs.
