What’s the Group of Death at the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
This is actually a close one. The two groups drawing the most attention are:
- Group I: France (World Rank #3), Senegal (#19), Norway (#29), FIFA Playoff Qualifier (TBD)
- Group L: England (World Rank #4), Croatia (#10), Ghana (#72), Panama (#30)
Looking at Group I, France and Senegal have a complicated World Cup past, with Senegal schocking the then-defending World Cup Champions in the opening match of the 2002 tournament. Norway, despite ranking just 29th in the most recent FIFA Rankings, are the team nobody wanted to face with Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard offering genuine goal scoring threat.
In Group L, England will bring a deep, experienced roster to the United States over the summer while Croatia are currently ranked as one of the ten best teams in the world. Panama went unbeaten in CONCACAF qualifying, and Ghana have been known to make impressive Cup runs.
Who has the best odds to win the 2026 World Cup?
- Spain (+450), who will attempt to advance through Group H, are the current betting favorite to win the 2026 World Cup. They’re the reigning European Champions and will bring a deep, experienced squad to the World Cup next summer.
- England (+550), who haven’t won the Cup since 1966, are the second favorite after a handful of near misses in recent years (2nd at Euro 2024, QF World Cup 2022, 2nd Euro 2020).
- France (+800), Kylian Mbappé is on fire for Real Madrid and will look to maintain that form through the summer, bringing France to a third consecutive World Cup Final.
We’ll post a full odds breakdown next week once they’ve had a chance to settle after the draw.
