Raul Rosas Jr. steps into his first UFC main event Saturday night when he faces veteran Raoni Barcelos in a five-round bantamweight matchup at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The prelims begin at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount+.
Rosas has quickly climbed the bantamweight ranks since becoming the youngest fighter ever signed by the UFC in 2022. Now 21 years old, Rosas enters his first headliner with a 6-1 UFC record and five consecutive victories since suffering the only loss of his professional career against Christian Rodriguez in 2023.
The first two wins of that streak came inside the distance, with Rosas stopping Terrence Mitchell before submitting Ricky Turcios. His last three have required the judges, as Rosas earned unanimous decisions over Aoriqileng, Vince Morales and most recently Rob Font. The Font victory represented his biggest test to date and moved Rosas into the UFC’s bantamweight rankings.
Barcelos brings considerably more experience into the other side of the matchup. The 39-year-old has made 15 UFC appearances since joining the promotion in 2018 and enters Saturday on a five-fight winning streak of his own.
After submitting Cristian Quiñonez in 2024, Barcelos has put together four consecutive decision victories against Payton Talbott, former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, Ricky Simon and Montel Jackson. His latest appearance came in April, when he defeated Jackson by split decision.

That recent stretch represents a change from how Rosas began his current winning streak. He finished Mitchell in the opening round and submitted Turcios in the second, but Aoriqileng, Morales and Font all made it through three rounds against him.
His performance against Font showed why Rosas doesn’t necessarily need a finish to control a fight. Rosas repeatedly turned to his grappling over 15 minutes and was comfortable maintaining that approach through all three rounds on his way to another unanimous decision. Rosas acknowledged afterward that he would have preferred a finish, but was pleased with his conditioning and ability to grapple with the veteran for the full 15 minutes.
Barcelos has been particularly difficult to get out of the Octagon early. Hard Rock Bet’s Stats Hub also notes that each of his last six fights against American opponents has gone the distance.
Four straight Barcelos fights have reached the judges’ scorecards, with the Brazilian earning decisions over Talbott, Garbrandt, Simon and Jackson. His only finish during his current five-fight winning streak came against Quiñonez, whom he submitted in the third round in February 2024.
Rosas will also be trying to impose his wrestling against an opponent who has historically been difficult to take down. Barcelos enters the matchup with an 88% UFC takedown-defense rate, potentially making Rosas work harder to establish the dominant positions that could lead to an early submission.
This will be Rosas’ first scheduled five-round fight, adding a new variable to the matchup. But his recent results have shown an ability to consistently win rounds when a finish isn’t available, while Barcelos has repeatedly demonstrated the durability to make it to the final bell.
