Monday’s MLB slate opens with an AL East matchup between the Boston Red Sox (64-53) and Toronto Blue Jays (56-63) at Rogers Centre. It’s the start of a four-game series and will be the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the two, with the Blue Jays holding a 6-3 season-series lead.
While it hasn’t been the season the Blue Jays envisioned after winning the American League pennant last year, Toronto has won eight of its last 13 games and sits only 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot. Despite losing their last two games against the Athletics over the weekend, the Red Sox, on the other hand, have been on fire since late June, owning a 32-7 record since June 25 and completely turning their season around. Boston enters Monday 11 games over .500 and holds the second Wild Card spot in the AL.
Sonny Gray is set to make his 22nd start of the season for the Red Sox in Monday night’s series opener, bringing his 2.78 ERA and AL-leading 14 wins into the matchup as he looks to help get Boston back in the win column. The Blue Jays are expected to counter with veteran right-hander Jameson Taillon, who is 2-6 with a 5.96 ERA this season and allowed six hits and three earned runs over four innings in his Toronto debut on Aug. 5 following his trade from the Chicago Cubs.

Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Best Bet: Jameson Taillon Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-125)
The Red Sox have ranked near the top, or at the very top, of many of the major statistical categories on offense since their incredible turnaround in late June. Although Boston scored only six runs total in its final two games against the Athletics over the weekend, the Red Sox now face Jameson Taillon on Monday night, who hasn’t necessarily had his best season here in 2026.
Taillon has allowed three or more earned runs in each of his last three starts, including seven in his final start as a member of the Cubs on July 26. While he allowed what may seem like a respectable three earned runs and four earned runs in those other two outings, it’s worth noting that Taillon failed to pitch more than 4.1 innings in either start. On a larger scale, Taillon has allowed three or more earned runs in 10 of his 16 starts this season.
- Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Player Prop Pick for Aug. 10: Jameson Taillon Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-125)
