Friday’s three-game NFL preseason slate includes a matchup in Jacksonville, Florida, as the Jaguars (1-0) are set to host the Carolina Panthers (1-1) at EverBank Stadium.
This will be the Panthers’ third game of the preseason after starting a week earlier in the Hall of Fame Game, and it will be an important opportunity to evaluate the offensive line following some struggles in last week’s loss to Buffalo and during a joint practice with the Jaguars earlier this week. Panthers third-year head coach Dave Canales confirmed that quarterback Bryce Young and the first-team offense will start and get meaningful snaps as they prepare for the regular season. Young completed 3 of 5 passes for 18 yards and was sacked once across the three drives he played against Buffalo, all of which resulted in three-and-outs.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen initially seemed inclined to play his starters for a handful of snaps Friday night, but after a full week of practice and a physical joint practice with the Panthers, those plans may have changed. Star quarterback Trevor Lawrence has yet to play this preseason, and the idea of him taking the field against the Panthers may now be off the table as Jacksonville looks to stay healthy and build off last year’s 13-4 record and AFC South title.
