The Tampa Bay Rays (79-54) return home to St. Petersburg, Florida, to host the San Diego Padres (72-62) at Tropicana Field Friday night for the start of a three-game interleague series.

The Rays will send left-hander Shane McClanahan to the mound for Friday night’s series opener. McClanahan is 9-6 with a 3.10 ERA this season and is coming off a start in which he tossed five scoreless innings against Baltimore on Aug. 22.
Casey Mize is scheduled to make his fifth start with the Padres since being traded from Detroit, but the 2025 All-Star hasn’t made quite the first impression he had hoped for with his new team. Mize has a 7.00 ERA with the Padres, which includes allowing nine hits and eight earned runs over 3.1 innings in his debut with San Diego. He also left his previous start with an ankle sprain after allowing four earned runs, including three home runs, over 2.2 innings against Minnesota.
