The Cleveland Guardians head into Thursday night’s ALDS Game 4 with a new lease on life after taking Game 3 on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox. Chicago still holds a 2-1 series lead, but Cleveland can force a winner-take-all Game 5 with another victory at Rate Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on TBS and truTV.
The White Sox put themselves in control of the series with two wins at Progressive Field, shutting out the Guardians 3-0 in Saturday’s opener before pulling out a 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Monday. Cleveland struggled to generate much offense in those first two games, leaving Chicago one win away from its first ALCS appearance in more than two decades.
Game 3 was a different story. The Guardians erupted at the dish in their 9-3 victory, finally getting the timely hitting that had been missing earlier in the series. They’ll now look to build on that performance and force a pivotal Game 5 back in Cleveland.
Thursday’s pitching matchup features a rematch from Game 1, with Parker Messick taking the mound for Cleveland against Hagen Smith. Messick will be looking to rebound from his loss in the series opener, while the White Sox are expected to continue leaning on Smith as part of their unique postseason pitching strategy.
Guardians vs. White Sox Odds Today
Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook has Cleveland listed as a short road favorite for Game 4:
Guardians vs. White Sox Prediction
Guardians Moneyline (-115): Cleveland finally found some answers in Wednesday’s 9-3 victory. The Guardians still have their backs against the wall, but they’ll enter Game 4 with some momentum and a chance to take the series back home.
There’s also reason to expect a better performance from Parker Messick, who took the loss in Game 1 at Progressive Field. Messick has gone 3-1 with a 2.56 ERA and 33 strikeouts in five career regular season appearances against Chicago.
His starts at Rate Field have been particularly encouraging. Messick has made two career starts on the Southside, pitching at least seven innings and recording eight or more strikeouts in both outings.
With their season on the line and a chance to carry Wednesday’s offensive breakthrough into another must-win matchup, we’re backing Cleveland to extend the series.
