The San Francisco Giants head to Wrigley Field to open a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon, and both clubs are looking to build on some late-week momentum.

The Giants (25-38) have been one of the National League’s biggest disappointments this season, sitting 15 games back in the NL West with a brutal -63 run differential. But they finished their four-game set against the NL Central-leading Brewers with consecutive wins, giving them some wind in their sails heading into Chicago. The Cubs (33-30) had a promising start to the campaign but plummeted through the end of May and now find themselves in fourth place in the NL Central, 5.5 games behind Milwaukee. They may have turned a corner on Thursday night, though, as they avoided a home sweep at the hands of the Athletics with an epic four-run ninth-inning comeback that lifted them to a 7-6 win.

On the mound, Edward Cabrera (3-2, 4.00 ERA) gets the ball for Chicago in his first start since May 21, when a blister on his right middle finger landed him on the 15-day IL. San Francisco counters with former AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray (3-6, 4.45 ERA), who will look to bounce back after a rough month of May that saw him surrender 8 home runs and 21 earned runs across 29.1 innings.

Jung Hoo Lee Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-155): Lee has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past month, and there’s no reason to think that stops Friday at Wrigley. Over his last 16 games (dating back to May 10), Lee has gone over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI in 13 of them – good for an 81% hit rate. That includes a four-game heater to open June in which he’s cleared the number every single game, highlighted by a 4-hit, 3-run explosion in last night’s win over Milwaukee.

For the month of May overall, Lee slashed .313/.337/.422 with 26 hits, 10 runs, and 8 RBI across 20 games – and that includes a mini cold stretch at the beginning of the month.

He also appears to have today’s opposing starter’s number. In just eight career plate appearances against Edward Cabrera, Lee is 3-5 with two walks and a hit-by-pitch – reaching base in six of those eight trips. Add in the fact that Cabrera hasn’t pitched in a game since May 21 due to a blister on his throwing hand, and there’s real reason to believe the rust factor could play into Lee’s favor in his first few trips to the plate.
