The National League’s top two teams meet for the first time this season as the Chicago Cubs (27-14) visit the Atlanta Braves (28-13) at Truist Park to open a three-game set. Atlanta is coming off a series win on the road over the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Chicago had its 10-game winning streak snapped with consecutive shutout losses in Texas over the weekend.
Both clubs had Monday off, so bullpens are fresh. RHP Colin Rea (4-1, 4.03 ERA) goes for the Cubs against RHP Grant Holmes (2-1, 4.34 ERA).

Dominic Smith Under 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-130)
Dominic Smith has been one of the most surprising stories in baseball this season. The 30-year-old signed a minor league deal with Atlanta in late March for just $1.25 million and proceeded to rake, hitting .395 with a 1.099 OPS through mid-April.
But here’s the thing: Smith is a career .251 hitter across 769 games and somewhat of a journeyman. His current .329 batting average is way above his lifetime mark, and while the underlying metrics (41.2% hard-hit rate, 8.8% barrel rate per Statcast) are solid, they aren’t elite enough to sustain this pace.
His recent gamelog tells the story: Smith has gone under his 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI number in each of his last five games, posting exactly 1 combined hit, run, and RBI in four of those contests and a goose egg in the other. In other words, his white-hot start has cooled.
Against a steady vet in Colin Rea, who has pitched into the sixth inning in four of his last five starts with one of the league’s best defenses behind him, Smith’s regression window appears to have arrived. Under 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI at -130 is the play.
