Delaware returns to Newark on Saturday morning looking to build on an encouraging showing against SEC competition, as the Blue Hens welcome Coastal Carolina to Delaware Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.

Both teams enter the matchup at 1-1, and each has already shown plenty of offensive upside through the opening two weeks.

Delaware opened the season by piling up 547 yards in a 42-7 win over Merrimack. Quarterback Nick Minicucci threw for 330 yards and logged three total touchdowns, while 10 different Blue Hens caught at least one pass.

The Blue Hens were also competitive in last week’s 35-26 loss at Vanderbilt. Delaware erased an early 14-0 deficit to take a 17-14 lead into halftime and finished with 338 total yards against the Commodores. Jo Silver rushed for 109 yards on 16 carries, while Da’Wain Lofton caught four passes for 142 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Coastal Carolina has followed a similar path. The Chanticleers fell behind 24-0 in their season opener at West Virginia before making things interesting after halftime. Deuce Bailey threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns without an interception as Coastal outscored the Mountaineers 24-7 over the final two quarters of a 31-24 loss. The Chanticleers finished that game with 425 total yards.

Bailey and the offense kept rolling in Saturday’s home opener against Fordham. Coastal won 45-7 while producing 460 yards, including 251 on the ground, and scored the final 38 points of the game. Bailey added three more touchdown passes, giving him six through his first two starts without throwing an interception.

Saturday will be the first meeting between Coastal Carolina and Delaware. The Blue Hens are back home after their trip to Vanderbilt, while the Chanticleers make their second road trip against an FBS opponent in three weeks.

Best Bet for Coastal Carolina vs. Delaware

Over 56.5 (-110): Both offenses have already shown they can move the ball against stronger competition.

Coastal Carolina did it in the opener at West Virginia, scoring 24 points on the road against a Big 12 opponent while putting together three touchdown drives of at least 70 yards. Bailey consistently pushed the ball downfield, connecting on eight passes of 20+ yards.

Delaware did the same with 26 points against Vanderbilt last week. The Blue Hens erased an early 14-0 deficit and generated several explosive plays, including Lofton’s 43-yard touchdown reception and a 57-yard run from Silver.

Those performances carry more weight for this matchup than what either offense did against Merrimack or Fordham. Coastal has already shown it can sustain drives and create big plays against a Big 12 defense, while Delaware did the same against an SEC opponent.

With both offenses already producing against Power Four competition, there should be enough scoring opportunities on each side to push this game past the number. Over 56.5 is our best bet.
