Chris Sale spent seven seasons in a Red Sox uniform, made two All-Star teams, and was on the mound when they won the 2018 World Series. On Thursday, he returns to Fenway in the visitor’s dugout, pitching as well as ever. Sale (7-3, 1.89 ERA) has reeled off seven straight quality starts for the 1st place Atlanta Braves (37-19), and has the opportunity to beat his former squad and secure a series victory this afternoon.

Atlanta won the opener 7-6 thanks to a pair of two-run homers from Michael Harris II and Matt Olson, while Boston evened things up on Wednesday with an 8-0 rout behind Connelly Early. The Red Sox will now turn to Payton Tolle (2-2, 2.45 ERA) to try and take the rubber game at home against a familiar face in Sale.

Stats Hub Best Bet: Willson Contreras Over 1.5 Total Bases (+140): Contreras has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball this month, slashing .313/.374/.550 in May. He’s cleared this number in 4 of his last 5 games, 9 of his last 10 overall, and 13 times in 21 games this month. He’s just 1-6 lifetime against Chris Sale, but that one hit was a double – which would get the job done today.

  • Total: The ticket count is essentially a coin flip at 51.8% on the over and 48.2% on the under, but the dollars are heavily skewed toward the under with 71.9% of the handle.
