Hello everybody, welcome into the BettingPros podcast. I’m Ryan Wormeli, joined by PJ Glasser, my friend and former colleague, as we get together like we do every year and talk a little college basketball in March. Very, very fun time of year.
We’re getting things started a week earlier than we have the last couple of years. We decided to do a bit of a conference tournament betting preview this week. We will, of course, be back early next week talking about the bracket itself after Selection Sunday. We will be doing some fun stuff throughout the tournament in March and into April, but we wanted to start a little bit early here.
Let’s get into it.
Ryan Wormeli’s Hard Rock Best Bet
My single favorite bet is actually going to be Florida -180 to win the SEC Tournament. It feels a little weird to pick a team that is laying those odds as my single favorite thing to bet, but again, I get so many vibes of last year’s Florida team. They’re starting to feel more and more inevitable as the season goes along.
I’m a huge fan of Todd Golden – and we talk about coaches I want Maryland to have. I really wanted them to sign him the year that he went to Florida. So I’m very jealous of all the success the Gators have had. He’s really good. I think this is a very winnable conference for them. I mean, this is obviously not last year – that was maybe the strongest conference ever in the SEC. This year is certainly not that.
They’re the team that I believe is going to win it all, outside of Duke. I just like the odds of Florida repeating a little bit better. So, yeah, I’m going to go with Florida here because I think they’re really, really good. They’re playing really excellent basketball right now. It’s a winnable conference. And you said it – if you can get anything under 2-1 or you know, -200, then yeah, I like that. And that’s where they are right now. So, I’ll go with Florida -180 for my Hard Rock Best Bet.
PJ Glasser’s Hard Rock Best Bet
I’ll give the people a little bit of a longer play with Michigan State +625 to win the Big Ten Tournament. I really like them in this tournament this week. I really do. I know it’s scary betting against Michigan. They’re the odds-on favorite for a reason. They went 17-1 in Big Ten play, but I think they’re going to lose in that semifinal game to Illinois or Wisconsin. I think one of those teams are going to take them out.
The Spartans are playing some of their best ball all year. Izzo, you know, his teams are always going to battle in any game that they play, especially during tournament time. I just think their offense is getting hot at the right time. Kur Teng’s knocking down threes. The bigs, Cooper and Kohler have been good. You’re always a highlight dunk away from Coen Carr getting the crowd to go nuts.
