Two of the WNBA‘s premier franchises are set to meet once again with a trophy on the line. The New York Liberty host the Las Vegas Aces in Tuesday night’s Commissioner’s Cup Championship at Barclays Center, renewing one of the league’s defining rivalries in a rematch of the 2023 title game, when the Liberty defeated the Aces to capture their first Commissioner’s Cup.
Since the tournament debuted in 2021, no teams have defined the Commissioner’s Cup quite like New York and Las Vegas. Between them, the Liberty and Aces have appeared in three of the event’s first five championship games, with each franchise already owning one Cup title. Tuesday’s winner will become the first team in WNBA history to win the Commissioner’s Cup twice.
Both teams enter the championship dealing with key injuries. Las Vegas will be without reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson after she suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s win over Chicago, while New York remains without Satou Sabally as she continues to work through concussion protocol. Even with those notable absences, the matchup still features plenty of star power. Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones lead the Liberty, while Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray will be counted on to carry the offensive load for the Aces.
