World Cup Golden Boot Picks & Predictions

Below, I’ll break down three World Cup Golden Boot bets that stand out as a value on the current odds board. The trio includes a favorite with a strong path to the award, a value play that I think is live to win, and a true longshot with the potential to surprise everyone. From the most likely winner to the biggest underdog, here’s where I see the best betting value in the Golden Boot market.

Kylian Mbappé Golden Boot: The Favorite

Look, it’s not exciting to shout out the betting favorite but at +575 I think there’s value on Kylian Mbappé’s Golden Boot odds. It’s been a season to forget for Mbappé at Real Madrid that ended with millions of fans across the globe signing a petition to kick him out of the club… but he still scored 42 goals in just 44 games. I’m not going to let that noise distract me from how dominant he is every time he steps on the pitch.

Further, while Mbappé has dealt with a revolving door of managers at club level, while wearing a France shirt he’s only known one. Didier Deschamps has been the coach of the French National Team since 2012 and brings a much needed level of stability and calm… and under Deschamps France has advanced to back-to-back World Cup Finals, winning in 2018 and finishing as runner-up in 2022.

Yes, he’s the favorite, but for my money Kylian Mbappé is the best goalscorer in the world right now. He needs just a single goal to become France’s all-time leading scorer at the age of 27, and five goals at this tournament would make him the highest scorer in World Cup history. I think he gets them.

Kai Havertz Golden Boot: The Value

For my Golden Boot value play I’m interested in Germany striker Kai Havertz at +4000. Havertz is a really talented player that may just end up as the starting striker for a team that has realistic aspirations of winning the World Cup.

Havertz spent much of 2025/2026 recovering from an early season injury, but he returned in time to help fire Arsenal to the Premier League title, and he also scored in the Champions League Final. His form has carried over with Germany as well, scoring twice in three games so far in 2026 including a tidy header after just two minutes last weekend against the United States.

Nick Woltemade currently has better odds to win the award for Germany, but Havertz tends to find the field when he’s healthy and if the team makes a run, 40-1 could become a value.

  • World Cup Golden Boot Prediction: Kai Havertz +4000

Mikel Merino Golden Boot: The Longshot

Stick with me here… I think Spain’s Mikel Merino is live to win the World Cup Golden Boot and at +15000 (150-1), I think it’s worth dabbling. Merino is 29 years old and has spent the majority of his career plying his trade in midfield, but last season in the midst of an injury crisis at Arsenal he was repurposed as a striker… and he was good… really good.

He’s got the raw attributes to play the position. He’s 6ft 2in tall, good in possession and link-up play, and he’s great in the air. While Mikel Oyarzabal is currently third-favorite to win the Golden Boot, I think there’s a non-zero chance that Spain realizes they’re better with Merino leading the line and if that happens this price will drop quickly.

Merino scored a career high 9 goals for his club in 2024/2025, but he was even more involved for Spain – scoring eight goals in just ten games. That’s the kind of run that could produce a Golden Boot if all breaks well. Sure, it’s a longshot, but the odds match.

Finally, one of the most important factors in who wins the Golden Boot is team success. The more games you play, the more goals you can score… and Spain are currently the betting favorite to win the World Cup this summer.

  • World Cup Golden Boot Prediction: Mikel Merino +15000
