Gray enters tonight’s start at 16-3 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 138.2 innings. The Red Sox are 18-6 when the veteran right-hander takes the mound this season, including 9-1 across his last 10 road starts. Gray allowed four runs over six innings against the San Francisco Giants in his latest appearance, but he has still recorded a 2.16 ERA across four August starts.
Gusto counters with an 0-3 record, 4.37 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 57.2 innings. He has made 12 starts and five relief appearances for Miami, rarely working deep into games but producing a 2.41 ERA across four August outings.
The right-hander delivered four scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals in his latest appearance, allowing five hits and one walk in Miami’s 3-2 victory. Gusto has completed five innings only twice this season, however, which could place additional pressure on a Marlins bullpen that was needed for more than six innings during Tuesday’s extra-inning loss.
