The Miami Dolphins open their 2026 NFL preseason with a matchup against the Washington Commanders on Friday night. The two teams held a joint practice earlier this week in Ashburn, Virginia, but now it’s time for live game action at Northwest Stadium.
The Dolphins are entering a new era with new faces across the roster and coaching staff, including former Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis and former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who is taking over as a first-time NFL head coach. Hafley plans to play his new quarterback on Friday as he looks to get valuable reps from his team and evaluate what he has on the roster ahead of the upcoming season.
The Commanders will look to assess what they have on the offensive line following star left tackle Laremy Tunsil’s triceps injury, which is expected to force him to miss a large portion of the season. Washington will also have a chance to evaluate its retooled defense after investing heavily in the unit through free agency and the draft following a disappointing performance last season.
