Super Bowl week is here, as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are set to battle for the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Faces Behind the Top 5 Colleges’ Success in the Super Bowl
Who’s responsible for Miami, Florida, Penn State, Memphis, and Georgia leading the way in Super Bowl scoring? Here’s a look at the players behind each program’s dominance.
Miami
Miami leads the way with 84 points scored by former players in the Super Bowl. Pete Banaszak notably scored two touchdowns in Super Bowl XI, while NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin accounted for 12 points in his Super Bowl career. Other contributors include Devin Hester, Reggie Wayne, Frank Gore, and Jeremy Shockey.
Florida
Legendary Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith is tied for the sixth-most points scored (30) in Super Bowl history. Don Chandler added points through field goals and extra points, and more recently, Kadarius Toney caught a touchdown for the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Penn State
Franco Harris totaled four rushing touchdowns across four Super Bowl appearances, including two in Super Bowl XIV. Penn State has also had several kickers contribute to its Super Bowl point total.
Memphis
Former Memphis kickers Jake Elliott and Stephen Gostkowski have combined for 69 of the program’s 75 Super Bowl points. Elliott’s 36 Super Bowl points rank third-most in NFL history, and his 16-point performance in Super Bowl LIX set the record for most kicking points in a single Super Bowl.
Georgia
Georgia has a rich history of former players representing the program in the Super Bowl. Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward famously caught a 43-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-quarter trick play in Super Bowl XL—a game in which he recorded 123 receiving yards and was named Super Bowl MVP.
Jerry Rice Reigns Supreme in Super Bowl Performances
Jerry Rice, arguably the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, almost singlehandedly placed his alma mater among the top Super Bowl scoring colleges. Mississippi Valley State University ranks 12th on the list, with Rice being the only player from the school to score in the Super Bowl.
Rice caught eight career Super Bowl touchdowns between the San Francisco 49ers and the then–Oakland Raiders, totaling 48 points. His 48 points are the most in Super Bowl history, and he scored 18 points in a single Super Bowl twice during his career.
