The NFC North remains one of the league’s most competitive divisions year in and year out. Following a thrilling 2024 campaign that saw three teams in the division finish with 11+ wins and a playoff berth each, it’s safe to say the stakes couldn’t be higher entering 2025.

How to read the NFC North Odds

NFC North odds, similar to other futures markets offered at Hard Rock Bet, are presented in a simple moneyline (Winner) format. For example, a team listed with a minus sign (-) next to its odds is the favorite, while a team with a plus sign (+) in front of its price is an underdog.

In some cases, like the 2025 NFC North for example, the division race is expected to be so tightly contested that all four teams are listed at plus odds before the season even begins. This presents immense value for players, as they have the opportunity to back whoever they consider to be the strongest team in the division at an attractive price.

What to know: Betting the NFC North

Each NFL division is comprised of four teams, so selecting the winner only requires your preferred squad to edge out three others. Since the pool of teams is much smaller compared to broader markets like betting on the Super Bowl champion or a conference winner, the odds for division winners are typically much lower.

That being said, there are a few intricacies when it comes to betting on each individual division. Here are a few tidbits to keep on your radar heading into the 2025 season:

Home is where the heart is

The four NFC North teams were a combined 25-11 at home in 2024, which was by far the best collective record among all eight divisions. The North was carried by Minnesota’s stellar 8-1 mark at home, followed by Detroit’s 7-2 record at Ford Field and Green Bay’s modest 6-3 finish at Lambeau. And although the Bears managed to win just five games on the season, four of them occurred at Soldier Field.

Pack Attack

Despite finishing last season with a solid 11-6 record that resulted in a playoff berth, the Packers struggled mightily against their fellow NFC North foes. Green Bay ended up going 1-5 in division games compared to 10-1 versus everyone else – with their lone loss outside of the division coming in Week 1 against the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

This is something to keep in mind as Green Bay recently emerged as the odds-on favorite to take the North in 2025.

Familiar faces, new places

NFC North Teams

The NFC North is made up of four teams: the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. All four teams hail from a prominent city in the midwest and three of them (Green Bay, Chicago & Detroit) are a few of the oldest franchises in NFL history. Embedded in tradition with some of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports, the NFC North is one of the league’s most compelling divisions. Let’s get into each team:

Chicago Bears

• Stadium: Solider Field, Chicago, Illinois
• Last NFC North Division Title: 2018

The Chicago Bears are one of the NFL’s oldest and most storied franchises, first joining the league in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys before relocating to Chicago a year later. A charter member of the NFL, the Bears boast eight NFL Championships and a Super Bowl XX victory, giving them one of the richest legacies in professional football. They have captured the NFC North crown on four occasions since the 2002 realignment, with their most recent division title coming in 2018.

Since that breakthrough, however, Chicago has struggled to find consistent success. The team has failed to produce a winning season in each of the last six years, enduring frequent coaching changes and instability at quarterback. Despite the turbulence, optimism is growing again in the Windy City, thanks to a talented defense and an infusion of young playmakers on offense.

That momentum now centers on second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Paired with new head coach Ben Johnson, Williams is expected to usher in a new era for the Bears alongside skill players like WR DJ Moore, WR Rome Odunze, and RB D’Andre Swift. If Williams can acclimate quickly and the defense continues to improve, Chicago could emerge as a legitimate contender to disrupt Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota in the NFC North race in 2025.

Detroit Lions

• Stadium: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan
• Last NFC North Title: 2024

The Detroit Lions were established in 1930 as the Portsmouth Spartans before relocating to Detroit in 1934. Once among the league’s proudest franchises with four NFL Championships in the early 1900s, the Lions endured decades of mediocrity in the Super Bowl era. The team has totaled just six division crowns since its inception almost a full century ago. 

Their most recent, however, came in 2024, when Dan Campbell’s squad delivered the best regular season in franchise history. The Lions finished 15-2 and claimed the NFC’s No. 1 seed, sweeping their divisional rivals along the way. 

Although it ended in heartbreak, as Detroit fell to the Washington Commanders at home in the Divisional Round, the Lions enter 2025 with the second-best odds of winning the NFC behind Philadelphia. They’ll look not only to secure their third consecutive NFC North crown, but also to finally push through to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

Green Bay Packers

• Stadium: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin
• Last NFC North Division Title: 2021

The Green Bay Packers are the NFL’s third-oldest franchise, first entering the league in 1921. Known for their historic home at Lambeau Field and endless tradition, the Packers proudly boast 13 league championships – including four Super Bowls. In fact, Green Bay was the first team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl, going back-to-back in 1966 and 1967 to take Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.

Since the 2002 NFL realignment, Green Bay has dominated the NFC North with 12 division titles, the last of which came in 2021 during Aaron Rodgers’ final MVP campaign. Since Rodgers’ departure, the Packers have passed the baton to Jordan Love at quarterback. Love delivered flashes of star potential in his first two years as a starter, helping Green Bay reach the postseason in 2023 and 2024.

Now entering 2025, Love has a chance to solidify himself as the long-term face of the franchise. If his growth continues and the defense is firing on all cylinders with the addition of Micah Parsons, Green Bay could challenge Detroit for its first NFC North title since 2021.

Minnesota Vikings

• Stadium: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota
• Last NFC North Division Title: 2022

The Minnesota Vikings joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1961 and quickly developed into one of the league’s most competitive franchises. Less than two decades removed from their inception, Minnesota appeared in four Super Bowls from 1969-1976, mostly led by QB Fran Tarkenton and their legendary defensive line dubbed the “Purple People Eaters”. Unfortunately for Vikings fans, all four appearances resulted in a loss and they haven’t returned to football’s biggest stage ever since.

Following the 2002 divisional realignment, Minnesota has captured five NFC North crowns, most recently in 2022 when they finished 13-4. Despite the regular season success, the Vikings’ playoff shortcomings have continued – the 2022 squad was ousted in the Wild Card Round by Daniel Jones and a sneaky underdog New York Giants team. They managed to rebound with another strong season in 2023 but fell short of overtaking Detroit in the North.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Vikings will heavily lean on WR Justin Jefferson, one of the NFL’s most unstoppable offensive weapons, and second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, the heir apparent under center. Backed by a talented core that includes RB Aaron Jones, WR Jordan Addison and TE T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota has all the tools to contest for another NFC North title.

What history tells us about NFC North betting

The NFC North has traditionally been one of the NFL’s more competitive divisions, and that’s especially true as of late. Over the last seven seasons, each team in the division has secured an NFC North title at least once.

Green and Gold Standard

Since the NFL’s divisional realignment in 2002, the Packers have had a firm grip on the NFC North. Green Bay has won the division a remarkable twelve times across 23 seasons, including three separate instances with three or more consecutive years atop the North.

During that span, Minnesota has the second-most NFC North titles with five, while Chicago trails them with four of their own. Detroit finally got on the board in 2023 and 2024 and will enter 2025 as the defending back-to-back NFC North champs.

Three’s Company

Since 2002, there have been 13 instances in which one division produced three playoff teams in a single season. The 2024 campaign marked the first time the NFC North accomplished this feat with Detroit, Green Bay and Minnesota all punching their tickets into the gauntlet. As the final division in the NFC to do so, they leave the AFC East as the only division in football that has yet to get it done at least once.

Additionally, since the expanded playoffs began in 2020, there has been at least one instance of this happening in each of the last five seasons. With the trend likely to continue in 2025, it’s entirely possible that the NFC North pulls it off in consecutive seasons.

Recent NFC North Winners

Here’s how things have gone down in the NFC North over the last five seasons:

• 2024 Detroit Lions: After decades of futility, 2024 marked the Lions’ most dominant season in franchise history. Detroit stormed to a 15-2 record and a second consecutive NFC North title behind the steady leadership of Jared Goff, who threw for over 4,500 yards and 37 touchdowns. Detroit’s two-headed monster in the backfield, made up of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, was virtually unstoppable as the two backs combined for more than 3,000 total yards and 32 touchdowns. The Lions not only locked up the division but also claimed the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the first time in franchise history. Despite securing a first-round bye along with homefield advantage, they were unfortunately bounced from the playoffs by the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round, 45-31.
• 2023 Detroit Lions: The Lions finally broke through in 2023 with their first division crown since 1993, finishing 12-5 and establishing themselves as the NFC North’s new standard. QB Jared Goff delivered a resurgent season, topping 4,500 passing yards and 30 touchdowns with the help of several young, explosive playmakers in RB Jahmyr Gibbs, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and TE Sam LaPorta. Dan Campbell’s squad not only won the North but also locked up the franchise’s first playoff victory since 1991, igniting a wave of optimism across the Motor City for the first time in decades.
• 2022 Minnesota Vikings: Minnesota stormed through 2022 with a 13-4 record, powered by the brilliance of WR Justin Jefferson. The star wideout cemented his place as the league’s premier receiver, racking up over 1,800 yards and 8 touchdowns en route to Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All Pro honors. Additionally, QB Kirk Cousins led the league in game-winning drives as the Vikings posted an incredible 11-0 record in one-score games. Although their playoff run was cut short by the New York Giants, the magical regular season brought the Vikings their first NFC North title since 2017.
• 2021 Green Bay Packers: Green Bay captured its third straight NFC North crown in 2021, finishing 13-4 behind a second consecutive MVP season from Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers threw for 37 touchdowns against only 4 interceptions, showcasing efficiency that few quarterbacks in league history have matched. Despite another strong campaign, Green Bay once again fell short in the postseason, losing 13-10 in the Divisional Round against the 49ers on a frigid night at Lambeau Field.
• 2020 Green Bay Packers: The Packers reigned supreme in 2020, closing the year with a 13-3 record and back-to-back NFC North titles. Aaron Rodgers put together one of the finest seasons of his legendary career, throwing for 48 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions on his way to winning his third NFL MVP. Davante Adams was unstoppable as well, leading the league with 18 touchdown receptions. With Matt LaFleur’s offense rolling, the Packers looked like a juggernaut – until they ran into Tom Brady’s Buccaneers and fell 31-26 in the NFC Championship Game.
