Shout out to Hard Rock Bet – the NBA Playoff conversations are already heating up, and on the latest episode of Joe & Jada, things got real opinionated, real fast.

We were joined by Tracy McGrady, who didn’t hold back jumping into the debates and giving his perspective throughout.

Let’s get into it.

Shai, Wemby, and the MVP Debate

There’s always that one debate every season that gets people heated, and this year it’s simple: who’s really the best player in the league right now?

We got into it heavy – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Nikola Jokic… all of it.

And depending on how you look at it, you might have two different answers.

Shai is the MVP… But Is He the Best Player?

Let’s be clear – Shai is having that kind of year.

He’s putting up numbers, leading a top team, controlling games, and getting buckets however he wants. Midrange, drives, footwork… he’s got that smooth, surgical package. It’s very Kobe, very MJ-esque.

And when you’re that guy? You get perks.

We’ve seen it before. Jordan got them calls. Kobe got them calls. Shai? He’s getting them now.

You breathe on him, it’s a whistle.

Now, is he benefiting from it a little? Yeah. Let’s keep it real. There are nights where it feels like he’s getting an extra 10-15 points off calls nobody else is getting.

But that’s part of being him.

And MVP? That’s Shai right now.

No debate.

But Wemby… That’s a Different Conversation

Now here’s where it gets tricky.

Because if we’re talking about the best player – not just this season, but who you’d take straight up?

Wemby might already be that guy.

He’s different. Like, not normal different – video game different.

Defensively, he’s already on another level. Offensively, he’s still growing and figuring it out… and that’s the scary part. Because once that fully clicks?

You’re looking at a player who could win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP all in the same season.

And it might happen sooner than people think.

Give him another offseason, another 10-15 pounds of muscle, and now what do you even do with him?

There’s no blueprint for that.

The “Superstar Treatment” Is Real

One thing we all agreed on: when you’re elite, the game changes for you.

Refs treat you different. The game opens up. Calls go your way.

That’s not new, that’s tradition.

But it does make things tough for defenders. Because now you’re not just guarding skill, you’re guarding reputation too.

And with Shai, that balance is real right now.

How Do You Even Guard Shai?

This turned into a whole other argument.

Teams keep throwing double teams, triple teams, collapsing the paint every time Shai touches the ball.

And honestly? That might be the wrong move.

You send three guys at him, now OKC’s shooters are wide open all game.

The better strategy? Let your best defender go one-on-one. Seriously.

If Shai drops 40 or even 50, so what?

At least you’re not giving up wide-open threes to everyone else.

Once he starts picking you apart and kicking it out, now the whole team is cooking.

And that’s when it’s over.

East vs West: Who’s Really Coming Out?

We shifted to the bigger picture too.

In the East, Boston still feels like the safest bet according to T-Mac.

They’ve been there, they’ve got the experience, and when Tatum and Jaylen Brown are right, they’re tough to beat.

Detroit? They’re coming. Young, hungry, physical – but probably a year away from really breaking through.

And then there’s Atlanta – a team we can’t stop watching.

They’ve built something different. It’s like they went out and found every gritty, hard-nosed, dive-on-the-floor type player in the league and put them all on one roster.

They’re not just talented – they fight.

Don’t Sleep on the Young Teams

Atlanta, Charlotte… even some of these up-and-coming squads are becoming must-watch.

Charlotte especially – they’re electric right now.

But are they ready to win a championship?

Not yet.

They’re exciting, they’re dangerous, but they’re still building toward that next level.

The West Runs Through… Who?

Out West, it’s a different story.

OKC looks like the most complete team right now. Shai leading, shooters everywhere, system locked in.

But San Antonio?

That’s the wildcard.

If Wemby keeps evolving – and they start building the right pieces around him – that matchup with OKC could be a problem.

In the regular season, things look one way.

In the playoffs? Everything is different.

Adjustments, strategy, matchups – that’s where stars really get tested.
